# The Elata SDK

> Open-source packages that turn webcams and consumer headbands into biosignal sensors, with processing on the user's device.

## What it does

The Elata SDK is a set of open-source JavaScript packages for building apps on
biosignals. It handles the hard parts:

* **Connecting** to devices: a webcam, or a Bluetooth EEG headband such as Muse
* **Processing** raw signals into usable measures: heart rate, heart-rate variability, EEG band powers, signal quality
* **Running on the device**: the processing core is written in Rust and compiled to WebAssembly, so it runs in the browser and raw data doesn't have to go to a server

The SDK is free to use, published on [npm](https://www.npmjs.com/org/elata-biosciences),
and developed in the open on
[GitHub](https://github.com/Elata-Biosciences/elata-bio-sdk).

## Package families

| Family | Packages | Status |
| - | - | - |
| **Sensors** | `rppg-web` (webcam heart rate), `eeg-web` (EEG processing), `eeg-web-ble` (Bluetooth headbands), `ppg-web` (headband heart rate) | Live |
| **Elata platform** | `app-payments` (purchases), `app-metrics` (records and scores) | Live |
| | `app-state` (saved progress) | Experimental |
| **Recording and analysis** | `biosignal-session` (local session recording), `biosignal-analytics` (features and scores), `rppg-models-web` (learned waveform models) | Experimental |
| **Tooling** | `create-elata-demo` (starter apps) | Live, known issue |

"Experimental" packages are available as source code but not yet on npm. See
[What's live](/overview/status).

## Supported devices

| Device | Signals | Browser |
| - | - | - |
| Any webcam | Pulse (rPPG) | Modern browsers |
| Muse 2 and Muse S | 4-channel EEG, PPG | Chrome or Edge (Web Bluetooth) |
| Muse S (Athena) | 8-channel EEG, optics, motion | Chrome or Edge (Web Bluetooth) |

Other headsets can be added through the SDK's device contract. See
[Device integration](/integrate).

## You don't have to publish on Elata

The SDK works in any web app. Publishing on Elata adds distribution, accounts,
and payments, but the sensor packages don't require it.
