# Devices You Can Use

> What you need for camera, EEG, and headband heart-rate apps, which browsers work, and how to get a clean reading.

## What each kind of app needs

| App type | You need | Browser |
| - | - | - |
| **Camera (rPPG)** | Any webcam, built in or USB | Modern browsers, including Safari |
| **EEG headband** | Muse 2, Muse S, or Muse S (Athena) | Chrome or Edge on desktop or Android |
| **Headband heart rate (PPG)** | A Muse headband with an optical sensor, such as Muse S | Chrome or Edge on desktop or Android |

Each app's page on Elata says what it needs.

## Browser support

| | Chrome / Edge | Safari (Mac) | iPhone and iPad |
| - | - | - | - |
| Camera apps | Yes | Yes | Yes, with camera permission |
| Bluetooth headbands | Yes, on `https` pages | No | No |

Bluetooth headbands use **Web Bluetooth**, which Safari and all iOS browsers
don't support. On those devices, use camera apps.

## Tips for camera apps

* **Light your face evenly**, ideally facing a window or a lamp. Avoid strong light from behind you.
* **Avoid flicker.** Some LED and fluorescent lights flicker in ways that disturb the reading.
* **Sit still** and keep your face in frame, about an arm's length from the camera.
* **Give it a moment.** Readings settle after several seconds of steady video.

***

## Tips for headbands

* **Fit it snugly.** Sensors should touch the skin on your forehead and behind your ears.
* **Move hair aside** from the sensors behind your ears.
* **Relax your face and jaw.** Blinking hard, clenching, and talking create large signals that aren't brain activity.
* **Turn on Bluetooth** and keep the headband charged and nearby.
* **Pair from the app,** not from your computer's Bluetooth settings.
