# Membership and Purchases

> In-app items, app subscriptions, and Elata membership from the user's side.

Browsing and playing apps is free. Some apps offer optional purchases. Every
payment goes through Elata's checkout; apps never see your payment details.

## In-app items

Some apps sell one-time unlocks, such as a level pack or an extra feature.

* Buy from inside the app; Elata shows the checkout.
* Prices are in USDC, a dollar-pegged stablecoin.
* Once bought, the item is yours on that account, on any device.

## App subscriptions

Some apps are behind a monthly subscription. If you don't have access, you see
a subscribe screen instead of the app. Builders can offer a free trial.

## Elata membership

Membership is a single monthly plan that unlocks **every subscription-gated
app** on Elata for as long as it's active, including Elata's own flagship apps.

* **Pay monthly** by card or with USDC.
* **Renew manually.** Membership doesn't auto-charge. You get a reminder near the end of each month.
* **Lapsing is safe.** If you don't renew, gated apps lock again, and your saved progress stays.
